With Flying Spur, can Bentley do away with its insignificant presence?

Well, with Rolls-Royce rolling out its most coveted car, the Wraith, Bentley, which has insignificant presence in the country, plans to beef up its numbers in one of the largest emerging markets by rolling out its most powerful car, the Flying Spur, for a whopping Rs 3.10 crore (ex-showroom New Delhi).

The Indian super luxury car segment sees low volume sales but the growth in this category is phenomenal at over 100 per cent a year.

The Bentley Flying Spur.
Bentley rolled out the new Flying Spur luxury sedan at a function of Delhi’s Exclusive Motors, which is the official dealer for the luxury car maker in the country.

According to the English super luxury car brand, the Flying Spur is all set to become the fastest luxury four-door sedan in the world and would be powered by a 6.0-litre, twin turbo W12 engine.

The Flying Spur can belt out 625 PS and a mind blowing 800 Nm torque. It can rev from 0 to 100 km per hour in just 4.6 seconds! A feat to reckon with… And, the car can touch a mind boggling top speed of 320 km per hour.

All the power that the Flying Spur offers has been channeled through the transmission to all the four wheels via the all-wheel drive system.

There is a standard torque split with 60 per cent going to the rear wheels and the remaining 40 per cent to the front wheels. But the Flying Spur can alter this division by up to 85 per cent to the back axle or 65 per cent to the front, after factoring in the available traction.

The luxury liner also comes with a computer-controlled air suspension, which acts as a shock absorber and helps absorb almost every bump on the road to give you a smooth ride.

The luxury car major said it would roll out its refurbished global models, including the newly-unveiled sports utility vehicle or SUV in the country in the near future to exploit the tremendous market potential.

”In the past, we have got a heartening response from our valued customers in India and I think the launch of the new Flying Spur will truly delight our discerning car buffs. The refurbished model is faster and more powerful than its predecessor and comes with enhanced cabin technology along with higher comfort levels,” Chris Buxton, regional manager, Bentley Motors (India, South Africa and Middle East), averred.

As of now, India accounts for nearly 2 per cent of Bentley’s sales pie globally and the company surely wants to enhance that.

Only more options and unique technology (such as in the Flying Spur), can excite premium buyers and help Bentley shed its ‘insignificant presence’ image.
