New Ford Fiesta diesel may falter in sales even though it gives a premium feel

The new Ford Fiesta has been spruced up, but sadly, this new car is only available in a diesel version and would come for a price of Rs 7.5 lakh.

The new Ford Fiesta offers a ‘premium’ feel over its previous version. It has received a fillip in terms of features and styling as well as pricing. But the high pricing could deter Ford to give a push to sales against competing cars like Hyundai Xcent, Honda City and Amaze as well as the likes of Skoda Rapid along with Maruti Swift Dzire.

The new Ford Fiesta.
In fact, Ford’s hindrance factor for its entry-level sedan has always been its pricing (but in the category of hatchbacks and entry-level SUVs, Ford has shown price-sensitiveness though).

Another unattractive factor is that the Fiesta is available only in the diesel version. This would jack up the pricing. Though there are three trims that would be offered, the price attractiveness is clearly not there.

But the USPs of this version are the new design, the updated interiors and of course some breathtaking connectivity solutions.

The grille is more appealing, the headlamps slimmer and the bonnet with more muscle. At the rear, the new bumper comes with a chrome strip to enhance the opulence of the car.

The boot lid is offered with an integrated spoiler and the tail lamps are so designed that they make you think they are LEDs. There are new alloy wheels also but that isn’t attractive in any way.

So far as the looks go, the new Fiesta does have a snazzier feel compared to the previous model. It looks much better proportioned compared to the old model. It looks opulent too. It is indeed one of the better looking cars in its class. No doubt on that.

Inside, the design continues to be the same but does give a premium feel this time. The dashboard is two-tone with a mesh finish. This is unique and comes with a feel good factor.

Ford has also made use of glossy black plastic on the centre console, door handles and around the climate control system replacing the matte silver. This has given the interior a premium feel.

The instrument binnacle is black rather than silver and the door handles and the steering wheel get a glossy finish instead of the matt finish seen in the previous Fiesta.

So, with just a diesel model and high pricing, the new Ford Fiesta may falter in sales even though it gives a premium feel throughout, in areas such as pricing and features.
