Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji: Response is average

Response: Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji saw below average collections at the box office on Friday, registering around 45 per cent occupancy.

Though figures are not available for the entire weekend, the occupancy rate is likely to surpass Friday’s level and touch nearly 60 per cent during the weekend. On Saturday alone, Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji netted almost Rs 9 crore.

The film’s director Madhur Bhandarkar said, “I’m confident of my foray into comedy. Humour has always been an integral part of my life. I have made effort to make the moments of life light. I am sure my audience will enjoy my new film. Humour is the other side of me which my audience will witness.”

Film type: Drama

Cast: Ajay Devgn, Emraan Hashmi, Omi Vaidya, Shazahn Padamsee, Tisca Copra, Shruti Hassan and Shraddha Das

Director: Madhur Bhandarkar

Time of movie: About 2 hours 20 minutes

Story: Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji is about three roommates Naren (Ajay Devgn), Abhay (Emraan Hashmi) and Milind (Omi Vaidya) who wan’t to make their lives more colourful.

Naren, is a 40-year-old divorcee but has fallen in love with his 20-year-old secretary (Shazahn Padamsee). Abhay is busy playing boyfriend to bored housewife Tisca Chopra. But things change for him when he meets her daughter (played by Shruti Hasan).

Meanwhile, Milind is willing to spend everything he earned on his girlfriend (Shraddha), who desires to be an actress. Will the three roommates get what they want?

Review: Bhandarkar ventures into comedy from his serious and issue-based films like Corporate, Traffic Signal and Page 3. While foraying into a romantic comedy, Bhandarkar has gone a tad off track. Ajay Devgn beautifully plays the role of a divorcee of the forties and Shazahn is cute and beautiful but there’s not much acting in her.

Same with Shruti Hasan. She’s gorgeous but her performance doesn’t really deserve a mention. Remember Omi Vaidya in his stunning role in 3 Idiots. Well, if you expect Omi to repeat his performance in Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji you’re in for some disappointment this time.

Emraan Hashmi, however, performs commendably and Tisca Chopra adds the much-needed spice in her short stint as Hashmi’s older and married lover.

The music is fascinating, cinematography is good but the story and dialogues are rather flawed and go haywire. Well, you can go ahead and watch it. But something is really lacking in Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji … and you’ll feel it.

Rating: 3/5
