Undeterred by a slowdown in sales, even in the medium and small car categories, Audi has made an audacious move to launch one of its top luxury liners, the A8 L W12 quattro, for Rs 1.26 crore.

The new A8 is a very long car and sitting at the back will make you feel as if you’re inside a room rather than a car and the soft feel of the specially-made leather seats will add to your comfort.

While launching the A8 L W12 quattro, Audi India head Michael Perschke said, “By adding a powerful engine to the Audi A8 L range in India, we will further consolidate our position in the limousine market here. The first lot of 20 cars for the country has been sold out.” 

The new variant of the A8 is equipped with a 6.3 FSI engine which paves the way for an output of 500 hp and a peak torque of 625 Nm at 3,250 rpm. The engine of the A8 L W12 is only 50 cm long, shorter than the V8 engine.

“The above specifications give the Audi A8 L W12 quattro a performance expected from a sports sedan,” the company said.

According to the company, the car can zoom from 0 to 100 km/hour in less than five seconds.

The Audi A8 L W12 has been made in such a manner that it is almost synonymous with a luxury yacht on a road. The W12 badge has its implications. The W means four rows and 12 is for the 12 cylinders in the car, three in each row.

The car offers a litany of luxury and safety features such as front and back seat automatic adjustment and there is also a communication assistance system. Additionally, the car offers restrained ambient lighting, sun roof and two monitor screens, all inside the car.

The gearbox of the A8 L W12 is an eight-speed tiptronic one that shifts by wire where gear changes can be done with the yacht-style gear selector or via paddles behind the steering wheel.

Audi has come up with some unique offers for the A8 L W12 quattro. Buyers can opt for a scheme by the name ‘executive package’ where the seats are electrically-adjustable heated and cooled ones and can bend backwards with the help of adjustable lumbar support.

The front seat can be moved from the back and a tray comes out where passengers can place their feet. Those on the front seat can take comfort from a unique massage function offered by the Audi A8 L W12 quattro.

The Audi A8 L W12 quattro’s unique features have led to a mega response to the car but a slowdown in the auto segment along with Standard and Poor’s downgrade of the US could spread gloom worldwide and see Audi’s audacious offering’s sales stagnate in the near future.
