Galaxy S Duos 2 pricing to help Samsung surge ahead in smartphone market

Samsung, besides being present in most price points in the country, is eyeing to dent the market of homegrown smartphone brands like Micromax and Lava (which have started pricing their smartphones at a higher price than they used to previously) by launching another upgraded phone, the Galaxy S Duos 2, for a smart price of Rs 10,990 and this would help it surge ahead in the domestic market.

The Galaxy S Duos 2 is a dual SIM phone (two GSM SIMs) and comes with a four-inch screen, 5 MP camera and 1.2 GHz dual-core processor. It runs on Android Jelly Bean operating system and comes with a 4 GB internal memory, which can be enhanced to 64 GB via a Micro SD card.

The Galaxy series of smartphones has been a runaway success for Samsung not only in India but globally mainly because it has a wide range of phones starting from Rs 4,500 and goes right up to almost Rs 50,000.

The Galaxy handsets have allowed Samsung to become the undisputed leader in the world of smartphones also because old versions are being replaced by upgraded handsets and because new handsets are being rolled out rapidly, giving the customer an array of smartphones to choose from (and these budget phones also come with hi-tech features).

Connectivity options on the Galaxy S Duos 2 are Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, EDGE, GPRS and 3G. There is a 1,500 mAh battery powering the device, which Samsung says can deliver up to 8 hours of talk time and up to 280 hours of standby time. The Galaxy S Duos 2’s dimensions are 121.5x63.1x10.57 mm and it weighs 118 grams.

The Galaxy S Duos 2 phone is being offered with an interactive user interface and has access to applications as well as content in 10 Indian languages, according to the Korean handset giant.

According to Samsung, the Galaxy S Duos 2 is tailormade for India having regional language support in Hindi, Punjabi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Assamese, Marathi and Gujarati for users, who need to access apps from the Samsung application store.

Customers would also have access to popular applications such as ChatOn, Facebook, Gmail and Newshunt in their regional languages and this is something that makes the company stand apart, compared to both homegrown and global brands.

So, by pricing the Galaxy S Duos 2 at par with homegrown handsets of Micromax for instance, and with a lot more options, Samsung has actually swamped the domestic smartphone segment, leaving local brands as well as global giants like Nokia, Sony and LG far behind in the market.
