Less known brand name could hinder Porsche Cayenne Platinum Edition sales initially

Porsche is all set to roll out the Cayenne Platinum Edition globally along with India and Porsche’s humble presence and less known brand name (in India) could be the bottlenecks that may hinder sales of the car, at least initially.

Fuel efficiency of the new Cayenne would be 10 km per litre for the petrol car while the diesel model could be a tad higher at 13 km to a litre. Engine options available are likely to be either a 300 HP or 400 Nm 3.6-litre petrol V6 engine or a 245 HP or 550 Nm 3.0-litre diesel V6 engine.

The Porsche Cayenne Platinum Edition.
The Platinum Edition of the Cayenne V6 petrol will come for €66,000 and the Cayenne diesel will be priced at €67,000 in Germany. The India prices haven’t been revealed yet.

Dealers are taking orders in India for both the diesel and petrol models where deliveries are slated to begin in about two months.

The Cayenne Platinum Edition gets its name primarily from the Silver Metallic exterior colour. Apart from the silver exterior, there are also other metallic colours like Basalt Black, Meteor Grey, Carrara White and Mahogany.

The new Cayenne will come with a slew of fashionable design elements in a bid to match the other luxury liners and be a force to reckon with in the near future.

The upcoming Porsche Cayenne Platinum Edition has bi-xenon headlamps and 19-inch Cayenne Design II alloy wheels with exclusive Porsche crests.

The interiors will witness beige or black themed leather seats and SportDesign steering wheel, privacy glass, distinctive floor mats and anti-dazzle mirrors.

Doorsills will showcase the Platinum Edition embossing and there would also be adequate safety features like parking assist system, GPS navigation and Porsche Communication Management System, which is a high-resolution seven-inch touchscreen along with a sound system with 11 loudspeakers, having total power of 235 Watts as well as a navigation module.

The new Cayenne will also feature a standard tip-tronic S transmission and power steering plus.

Porsche needs to do a lot of brand building in India in order to be a name to reckon with, and with the luxury car segment in the country becoming fiercely competitive, it could be quite a while before Porsche establishes its presence.

Many global luxury car brands have come to India and have disappeared, such as Spyker, Bugatti and Maserati as well as Bentley. Luxury cars of these brands were rolled out with much fanfare, such as the Bugatti Veyron, which comes for a whopping Rs 16 crore, but hasn’t made any mark in India yet.

So, by building a brand name (raising awareness, that is), and stepping up presence, Porsche’s wonders like the Cayenne Platinum Edition, with a slew of comfort and safety features, could make headway in the country.
