Motorola’s smartphone Atrix can recognise its owner

Motorola had some of the most hardy handsets in the market but suddenly went into oblivion soon after, and now, it is back with a bang with the Atrix, a smartphone that is not only a phone, but also a laptop, a personal computer and can easily recognise its owner by fingerprint (that is, it is the world’s first biometric handset).

The Atrix can be converted not only into a laptop, a personal computer but also a media centre or for that matter a sat-nav.

It is believed to be the first smartphone that can recognise a fingerprint and only be operated by its owner, much like what some of the laptops offer.

For this, the owner will have to glide his finger on the touchscreen quite a few times after which the smartphone identifies him or her and allows the person to operate the device.

Motorola has claimed that the Atrix is the ultimate smartphone that “is loaded with tech wizardry that any aspiring spy can be proud of.”

The Atrix has an attractive lapdock, which looks a tad like a mini laptop but it does not have any computer processor.

There is another dock that simply converts the phone into a personal computer. Via a cable, it connects the handset to a screen. The Atrix has a number of USB ports and its Bluetooth wireless gets connected to a full-size mouse and keyboard.

The software used by Atrix is termed Webtop that paves the way for the keyboard, mouse and screen to be used as a computer which can be connected to the internet.

The Atrix comes with a dual core processor, which sets the stage for a very fast operation, has two antennae for downloading and uploading from the web (which can be done simultaneously), and has a large on-board memory.

The Motorola smartphone also has a four-inch high-definition screen, a five mega-pixel camera and a video camera that allows video calling.

The features include an Android 2.2 operating system that will also come with a Gingerbread upgrade soon, a 4-inchTFT captive touch screen, Gorilla glass display, accelerometer sensor, a 2Ghz dual core processor and 1 GB RAM. The five mega-pixel camera comes with an LED flash.

Motorola has not unwrapped the price of the Atrix buy speculation is rife that the smartphone could come for around pound 450.

Handset users have always been looking for something new in their phones, and these striking features, especially the versatility along with the feature where the handset can recognize its owner, will surely make Motorola Atrix a handset that could find many takers in the global market.
