Ready: A film for every Salman fan

Response: On the earnings front, Salman Khan’s Ready has done well in the first two days — Friday and Saturday — grossing revenues of over Rs 20 crore and Friday alone accounted for nearly Rs 12 crore, which indicates that the film is a hit.

However, the worrying point is that Saturday’s earnings were lower than Friday’s. But box office collections are likely to pick up on Sunday and the week after.

On its debut day, Ready registered occupancy of about 60-80% at multiplexes as well as single-screen theatres and evening shows logged 100 per cent occupancy.

As per initial leads, the film is likely to beat the first-day opening of the superhit movie 3 Idiots.

Ready’s good show has taken a big toll on earnings of films such as Pyaar ka Punchnama and Vikram Bhatt’s 3D movie Haunted with both the films seeing earnings plunge during the weekend.

Film type: Comedy

Cast: Salman Khan, Asin, Paresh Rawal, Mahesh Manjrekar and Arya Babbar

Director: Anees Bazmee

Time of movie: 2 hours 20 minutes

Story: Salman Khan plays the role of Prem, who is smitten by a bride Sanjana (played by Asin), helping her to escape from a forced marriage and he takes her to his house, telling his family that she is a guest.

Prem plays the role of a person who helps young lovers in distress and this way he comes in contact with Sanjana.

But all is not well. Sanjana is a rich girl and her uncles want to grab her property and don’t want her to wed Prem. Her uncles want her to marry their respective brother-in-law so that they can grab all her wealth.

The story basically revolves around whether Prem can take Sanjana out of the clutches of her uncles and marry her.

Review: Salman Khan has mass appeal and director Anees Bazmee has done well to cash in on this in Ready by making it a mass movie with the purpose of entertainment only, even though a mindless one.

Diehard Salman fans will be missing out on some Sallu masala if they don’t watch the film. Ready is the perfect movie to allay you of your stress while making you break into bouts of laughter. Salman’s fans will, as usual, get a topless view of their favourite star.

But compared to Salman’s previous blockbuster Dabangg, Ready will fall short of your expectations. Ready is, however, a film where you see more of Salman the entertainer rather than Salman the actor.

In the first half, there is confusion all around and the film’s story is actually told in the second half. But there are times when you may feel that there are loopholes in the story, which seems rather bewildering.

Asin seems to be at ease with her hero, while Paresh Rawal does a good job. But none of the other actors seem to justify their role.

So, if you are a Salman fan or just want to have fun (without any logic) get ready for Ready.
