Few takers for Break ke Baad

Response: Break ke Baad has hardly seen any takers during the opening weekend with multiplexes in and around Delhi registering 15-30% occupancy. Overall response across the country was a tame 20-25%, even though some multiplexes registered over 40% occupancy.

At this rate, Break ke Baad could gross a paltry Rs 1 crore over the weekend, a sure indication that the film will be a flop. The chemistry between Deepika Padukone and Imran Khan in this romantic comedy was clearly missing, feels a movie buff who saw the film on Saturday. From the initial response, it seems Break ke Baad is unlikely to pick up during the week ahead.

Film type: Romantic comedy

Cast: Imran Khan, Deepika Padukone, Sharmila Tagore and Shahana Goswami

Director: Danish Aslam

Time of movie: Nearly two hours

Story: Imran Khan, who plays Abhay and Deepika Padukone (Aaliya) are childhood friends who become lovers when they turn 20. But Aaliya decides to take a break from their two-decade relationship and flies off to Australia with a desire to become an actress. Abhay follows her hoping that their love will blossom again. Will Aaliya’s dream of becoming an actress be fulfilled or will Abhay get his dream girl back?

Review: If you’ve watched Kuch Kuch Hota Hai or Dulhaniya Dilwale Le Jayenge there is nothing new Break ke Baad has to offer. The writer not only lacks professionalism but also does not have anything new to tell you. You may at one point of time want to come out of the movie hall or force yourself to stay. The film was targeted at the suave youth but it actually fails to connect. In case there’s not much for you to do over the weekend, you may sneak in, but we don’t guarantee you entertainment.

Rating: 2.5/5
