Mausam: Shahid graduates from being the lover boy

Response: Mausam, where Shahid Kapoor evolves from his lover-boy role, has earned Rs 7.5 crore on Day One, making it a clear hit, even though it falls short when compared with films like Salman Khan’s Bodyguard.

On Saturday, Mausam grossed Rs 6.50 crore. The collections picked up on Sunday, with the film earning Rs 9 crore.

Mausam seems to be Shahid Kapoor’s biggest hit, with opening weekend collections standing at a staggering Rs 22 crore.

Made at a whopping budget of Rs 35 crore, Mausam was released across 1,900 screens last Friday.

Film type: Romance

Cast: Shahid Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Anupam Kher, Supriya Pathak and Aditi Sharma

Director: Pankaj Kapur

Time of movie: Two and half hours

Story: In Mausam, Sonam Kapoor is a Kashmiri Muslim refugee girl Ayaat while Shahid Kapoor is a Punjabi boy Harinder Singh or Harry.

Their love story passes through the most tumultuous period in recent memory, that is, Sangh’s riots after demolition of Babri Masjid, the Mumbai riots as well as the Kargil war.

These violent periods separate the two lovers. After seven years, Harry is an air force pilot who meets his love Ayaat again. Unfortunately, the Kargil war separates them again after Harry is called for duty.

Unable to trace themselves after the war, the two lovers grapple to find each other for years. They meet during the unfortunate incidents of 9/11 attacks and the Godhra riots. So, can they unite in Mausam?

Review: In Mausam, director Pankaj Kapur tries to portray love at different periods (where Shahid and Sonam are separated and united a number of times).

But the way he does it, paves the way for boredom to set into the film.

The second half of Mausam is a big dampener as the first half leaves a lot of questions unanswered and the second half cannot give you satisfactory answers.

All the actors perform dismally, except Shahid, who literally navigates the movie to making it a hit. Sonam Kapoor is her snooty self, and its time she really started acting (may be take some lessons from Pa Anil).

Mausam has the romance but not the story and the highlight is that Shahid graduates from being the lover boy. Go watch Shahid, if you want to see him in his new role in Mausam.

Rating: 3/5
