Will prudent pricing push BlackBerry Z30 sales?

BlackBerry is way behind in the smartphone as well as other high-end phone segment but is still banking on the coveted premium customer to set its house in order, this time with the unveiling of the Z30 at a somewhat prudent pricing (at Rs 30,000) though.

The BlackBerry Z30 comes with 5-inch super amoled display (1,280x720 pixels), 1.7 GHz dual-core processor, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of memory (which is expandable), 8 MP rear along with 2 MP front camera, WiFi, USB host, 2,880 mAh battery and BB 10.2 OS.

Some of the pivotal upgrades on the Z30 are four microphones and a new antenna, which automatically adjusts according to the strength of the signal.

The HDMI port of the Z30 is much better as unlike an MHL port, there is no need for an adapter. Only a micro HDMI along with a HDMI cable is needed.

The Z30 is the third and latest handset from BlackBerry’s BB10 stable.

The Z30 is conceptualised from the Z10 and is bigger in size and scores over its predecessor in terms of technology, camera as well as storage. A judicious move: it is priced lower than the Q10.

The Z30’s design is a combination of the Z10 and Q10. The new handset has the same glass-weave back panel as the Q10 and touchscreen design style of the Z10. The 5-inch display has a super amoled 720p unit. This is an enhancement over the Z10.

The Z30 is brighter and comes in youthful colours. It also offers useful multimedia content. Like its other BB10 peers, the back panel of the Z30 can be uncovered. However, the battery can’t be removed.

In the Z30, one can preview messages on the lock screen itself, get instant notifications on the top of the screen. In fact, the new priority hub arranges messages automatically.

The more powerful 2,880 mAh battery, amoled screen, antenna and other power saving features have given a fillip to battery life significantly. You can expect to get 24-48 hours of use, even with constant data usage.

The Z30 has to slug it out in a market, which has some hi-tech devices such as Samsung’s multi-tasking Galaxy S IV, the mind blowing HTC One, iPhone 5 and LG’s G2, among others.

The Z30 has a phenomenal battery life, high resolution screen, software productivity upgrades and premium build quality. But some of the minuses in the handset are users can’t replace batteries, applications are limited and the camera isn’t the best in the price range.

So, will intelligent pricing as well as a host of enhancements from the Z10 and Q10 help BlackBerry Z30 sell well?
