Splendid: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1

Response: It’s time for celebration for the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 team as the film is believed to have grossed an astounding $330 million over the opening weekend. The movie has made $125.1 million in the US and $205 million globally.

The numbers registered surpass the previous record debut of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by 23%. With this, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 pips the Harry Potter series’ best debut of $102.7 million (earnings) registered by Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in 2005.

Film type: Adventure

Cast: Danielle Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Ralph Fiennes and Alan Rockman

Director: David Yates

Time of movie: 2 hours 25 minutes

Story: Voldermort’s on the prowl and has taken over the ministry of magic and also Hogwarts (the fictional boarding school of magic for witches and wizards). There is only one way in which Harry Potter and his buddies Hermione and Ron can wrest Voldermort’s mounting power: by destroying the Horcruxes, the magical artefacts that has his soul. It’s a mammoth task for Harry Potter and his team as Voldermort’s wicked friends are out to get Harry and others.

Review: This film seems to be the deadliest Harry Potter sequel. Harry and his buddies cannot afford any slips ups here, and with Voldermort appearing deadlier than ever, Harry and his friends have to use every trick in the book to decimate the creature.

You’ll witness some thrilling performances that will surely put you on the edge of your seat. The acting (overall) has been mature. Harry Potter may seem to have taken greater responsibility to lead the apocalyptic world but the stunner is Voldermort, whose devastating powers seem unconquerable.

But the film is somewhat scary and may not ideally be suited for children. The sound effects and the overall acting have been ... well... Mighty!

There is one problem though. It leaves you with a sense of emptiness which can only be fulfilled after the Part II is released in July. However, the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 can arguably be dubbed the finest Harry Potter film and could turn out to be an award winner.

Rating: 4/5
