Golmaal 3: Fasten your seat belts (if you have them)

Response: Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal 3, with Ajay Devgn in the lead role, has almost trumped Vipul Shah’s romantic film Action Replayy (starring Akshay Kumar) at the box office.

The two mega films were lined up for Diwali release, and according to a cinema hall owner, the Golmaal sequel is running almost to packed houses against Action Replayy, which has logged 50% occupancy and is yet to pick up.

Initial reports pouring in suggest that Golmaal 3 could gross nearly Rs 7 crore on Diwali day (Friday) itself. Another cinema hall owner felt Golmaal 3 is a total entertainer and worth its money. So, people are thronging the theatres for it.

According to a Delhi multiplex owner, Golmaal 3 had registered an occupancy rate of 60-70 per cent while for Action Replayy it was 35 per cent on Friday.

Film Type: Comedy

Cast: Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Johny Lever, Kareena Kapoor, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Kunal Khemu, Mithun Chakraborty and Ratna Pathak Shah

Director: Rohit Shetty

Time of movie: Two hours and 20 minutes

Story: The clowns of Golmaal are back and this time their numbers have only gone up. Mithun plays the father of three orphaned children (Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor and Kunal Khemu) while Ratna is the mother of two orphaned kids – Ajay Devgn and Shreyas Talpade. Mithun and Ratna happen to be erstwhile lovers and Kareena Kapoor helps them resurrect their romance and gets them married. But can the two families live together? The movie revolves around how the two families unite after bouts of rivalry.

Review: This is a very very flippant film but there is one guarantee: you’re going to enjoy it from start till finish. So, in case you manage to find seat belts, fasten them from the beginning. Rohit Shetty, who can now be dubbed the undisputed king of sequels, has a lot of fun in store. For two hours, don't try to make any sense out of the film, just forget any logic and laugh out loud.

All the characters in the film have their discernible role to play and there is no mix up in this. Ajay Devgn is the angry young man who can crack fingers if pointed at him. Johny Lever adds a dhamaka with his bhullakar (short-term memory loss) don role. Arshad Warsi, with his typical tapori character, along with Tusshar Kapoor and Kunal Khemu are well aware of Ajay Devgn’s finger-breaking trait and remember to keep their hands in their pockets while bickering with him. Shreyas also sets the crowds in motion with hisss... stammering.

But the best performer is Tusshar, who rattled the cinema halls with his silence (which he has not been able to do so in a normal role). And, Mithun along with Ratna play the adorable old couple (The Hum Saath Saath Hai types). Mithun’s Disco Dancer songs do add a déjà vu to this Golmaal.

Meanwhile, Kareena plays a perfect matchmaker and Facebook, Ratna’s dog, the perfect irritant to new guest, Mithin, who goes on to live in Ratna’s house after their wedding. In short, just go for it. It’s a 100 per cent paisa wasool movie!

Rating: 4/5
